Below are more detailed descriptions of the online works that I have created throughout the span of my time in ED271. I have also combined each artifact with a standard from ISTE*S to illustrate my ability in meeting the requirement.
ARTIFACT 1:
|
Standard IV. Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making
a. Identify and define authentic problems and significant questions for investigation
This Google Doc presentation discusses various elements of the online educational game "Fruit Splat Division" and helps illustrate my ability to meet ISTE*S Standard 2c. Working on this presentation has helped me developed a keener eye towards which games can help serve a purpose within my lessons and which will not. It is also through this artifact that I was exposed to the world of online educational games and what they have to offer. I particularly liked that this game was able to be customized to the learner's strengths and could easily be tailored to meet the needed accommodations. I say this because in every round of the game, the learner is provided an opportunity to pick and choose which speed they would like to play the game. With the knowledge and exposure I have gained from this activity, I feel I am able to properly identify and define authentic problems and significant questions for investigation as seen in my reviews of the online game's components. |

Standard V. Digital Citizenship
d. Exhibit leadership for digital citizenship
This artifact is a website containing information about Cyberbullying. It contains not only facts about cyberbullying, effects, modes, types, and statistics, but also prevention tips tailored for the every day teacher. In a society where cyberbullying seems to be on the rise, it is important for every school official to know all they can about the topic and how to effectively distinguish it. I firmly believe that it is our obligation as teachers to work together with parents to put an end to this increasing trend of cyberbullying. My work with this website has definitely helped showed me the importance of prevention methods within my classroom so that my students are aware that cyberbullying will not be tolerated. Through this artifact, I illustrate my ability to meet ISTE*S 5d in that I am able to exhibit leadership for digital citizenship by promoting and modeling digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information. I have also provided insights from both a student's and teacher's perspective within my website to show that the responsibilities of preventing cyberbullying lie on both ends of the spectrum. |
ARTIFACT 3: COPYRIGHT AND FAIR USE PRACTICESvia Weebly
|
Standard V. Digital Citizenship
a. Advocate and practice safe, legal, and responsible use of information and technology
This artifact is a website based on Copyright and Fair Use Practices. Before my research for this topic, I had little to no idea of just how many copyright laws I have broken. The information I was exposed to through this topic presentation has definitely opened my eyes to what I can and cannot do with the information provided to me so easily because of the internet. Through this website, I am meeting ISTE*S 5a standard in that I am able to advocate, and practice safe, legal, and responsible use of information and technology. As a student, I remember countless lessons on avoiding plagiarism, but not once have I been given lessons on avoiding copyright infringment. Through this website, I am able to show not just students, but teachers as well the importance of avoiding such issues and respecting others' right to their work. Learning a great deal about Copyright and Fair Use Practices has greatly furthered my ability in advocating for legal and responsible use of information generated through today's internet. |
ARTIFACT 4:

Standard III. Research and information fluency
c. Locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media
This artifact is an e-binder of Special Education sources that I compiled together to help provide others, outside of the Special Education field, a better understanding. This artifact illustrates my ability to meet ISTE*S 3c standard because I am able to locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media. Within my LiveBinder, I include the more common pieces of information such as the IDEA law that fuels Special Education as well as more specific resources like Evidence Based Strategies that any professional can learn and practice within their classroom. I made sure to gather a plethora of sources to provide my audience with a variety of links to choose from dealing with the Special Education field. With Inclusion on the rise, it is crucial that all, and not just the special education professionals, are aware of what is necessary for students with disabilities to progress and succeed. I feel that the resources included within my LiveBinder can provide a good jumpstart to any individual willing to learn more to improve students with disabilities' learning. |
ARtifact 5:

Standard I. Creativity and innovation
b. Create original works as a means of personal or group expression
This artifact is a compilation of my reflections on my experiences dealing with online educational games and digital safety. Within my reflections, I evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice involving these aforementioned topics. The reflections found within this blog ultimately illustrates my ability to meet ISTE*S 1c standard. In fact, within "Fruit Splat Aftermath", I challenge my readers to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning as I provide multiple ways that one can use online educational games within a classroom setting. I not only use current research to reflect on what I have done thus far, but I also utilize it to better prepare myself for the 21st century learners that I will soon have within my classroom. These reflections are the ultimate portrayal of my ability to create original works as a means of personal expression. |
